The view from the window is beautiful. It’s ordinary yet extraordinary. Fields, forests, sunrises, and sunsets. Among them, engineering marvels whose purpose we don’t fully understand – water towers, dispatch offices, signal boxes. All part of the machinery needed for trains to run, both in the past and today. Alongside it, the infrastructure for passengers, where we stay briefly (though it often feels longer). And the homes of railway workers, lulled to sleep by the sound of trains.
Railways remind us that we are not isolated islands, but part of a flow of passengers. Wherever they reach, life develops. They offer travelers a view of non-road landscapes, free from cars and billboards. They provide shelter for the weary and hopeful.
Railways are life. Come ride with me through this year!
The 2024 Calendar is a personal project that celebrates the beauty of Poland’s railway landscapes, featuring hand-drawn illustrations of unique infrastructure like water towers and control rooms, which connect passengers to the country’s hidden, non-commercialized vistas. Each illustration was created exclusively for the calendar, emphasizing the charm of everyday railway elements. The calendar is printed using risography, a technique that gives it a distinct, textured look, in a limited edition of 100 copies.
